Karl Lutchmayer Concert in Aid of Child’s Play (India) Foundation

Child’s Play (India) Foundation is an NGO that nurtures musical talent among underprivileged children in Goa, giving them a sense of accomplishment and confidence that helps build character and enables them to envision a better future for themselves. The NGO, which was founded by Dr Luis Francisco Dias in 2009, has completed ten years of transformative work. 

Child’s Play (India) Foundation (CPIF) has had two major concerts every year since 2014, the Camerata Child’s Play India performed at the Monte Music Festival in 2014, Dr Luis has spoken about CPIF’s work at the INK Talks in 2010 and 2014. Aside from these achievements, CPIF’s work has been highlighted in well-known national and international publications such as the Reader’s Digest, The Hindu and Deutsche Welle.

This year’s celebratory events started off with the successful Monsoon Concert on the 21st of September, which had performances by the Baridisi Quartet and the duo of Omar de Loiola Pereira (guitar) and Selwyn Menezes (violin), apart from the children of CPIF. This was followed by the Christmas Concert on 7th December 2019, which featured The Child’s Play Chorus, Camerata Child’s Play India and Aradhon, Goa’s most sought after sacred music choir.


The celebrations continue this year (2020) with a benefit concert by Karl Lutchmayer, a renowned pianist of Goan origin. Karl’s musical education includes having studied at the Junior Department of Trinity College of Music, the Royal College of Music and the Moscow Conservatoire. He has worked with conductors such as Lorin Maazel and Sir Andrew Davis and has broadcast on BBC Radio 3, All India Radio and Classic FM. Karl is an academic lecturer at Trinity Laban and frequently guest lectures at conservatoires around the world, including the Juilliard and Manhattan Schools in New York. ‘Conversational Concerts’, Karl’s London lecture-recital series, has won him critical and public praise. He was awarded the Bharat Gaurav (Pride of India) Lifetime achievement award in 2015 for devoting his time and expertise to the development of Western classical music in India.

Karl has a preference for Western classical music of the later Romantic era, including Liszt, Alkan, Busoni, Bartók and Enescu. All Western classical music devotees have a musical treat awaiting them on the 18th of January 2020 at the Menezes Braganza Hall, Panjim at 6pm, with a lecture-recital by Karl Lutchmayer, featuring works by Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt, Scriabin and Medtner.

Donation passes are available at Furtados, Panjim, and at the door just before the concert.

Marian art carries hidden symbolisms that most people have no knowledge of.
